THE SKETCHBOOK PROJECT 2012

I've received my Sketchbook! The year 2011 will be an exciting year to keep a record on, as I will be travelling further west than the usual Kuala Lumpur Malaysia! It will be my "first" time on the plane (as clear memory), the last time was almost 10 years ago and the destination was actually KL. (- -")

Basically, I am looking forward to 3 travelling experience this year, study trip to Taipei, Taiwan, 4th Anniversary Trip to Kulai, Malaysia by Train for Horse Riding (it's my first time taking a train to Malaysia) and Egham, London to visit my dear boy as he will be there for studies starting this September!

Now I'm thinking how should I do it. Should I do a watercolour sketches on the stuff and places I've seen on my trip overseas? Or write a fantasy-like travelling story by linking up Taiwan, Kulai and London in a narrative form..? Hmmmm... I'm excited!!

MOLESKIN SKETCHES - SHIRE HORSES

Recently, I've bought my first Moleskin Sketchbook! My best polymate and I decided to give each other a year to fill up this sketchbook and comeback to see what we have in May 2012! That above is my second sketch, inspired from the Shire Horses! Well, I fell in love with these horses when I first saw them! They are huge and handsome with really nice hooves there~ I seriously hope to see the real ones in future.

PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO

Recently, I did a portfolio for my internship job application at a photography studio. I read this a few months ago which triggered me to do a portfolio that was different from my past doings..

"I am always shocked when I meet illustrators to review their portfolio by how easy it is to tell the student from seasoned professional (hint: the student has an over sized portfolio with original art and no websites; the pro has a small custom-made book with clean printouts and a functional site)." - How to be an Illustrator

ILLUSTRATION - THE FANTASTICAL BOTANIC GARDEN

"The Fantastical Botanical Garden" is officially handed over to Singapore Botanical Garden today! Above is the updated version of it, text reduced and I hope the short notes help better than the chunky paragraphs that used to be there.

Although, I wouldn't be sure about the after works on when it will be ready for the public and whether it will be up for download, but I am happy about the this exposure. I'm sure there is still many rooms for improvements and will continue to work on it as time passes. The principle in my work is to continue working and every work will move on to another stage along the way! I hope to improve myself further even when I became an old lady in future. May art lives in me forever till my last breathe.

"Stress will always be my enemy and I'm always ready to battle!"
P.S.:I will keep an update when it is officially up for download.

10 BENEFICIAL THINGS BY IMAGINISM

Here's an article that I have read from Deviantart which I thought was meaningful and serves a good form of reminder for me! It is an article from Imaginism and I hope everyone gets the motivations and reminders as well!

10 Beneficial Things Artists Should Ask Themselves

Here's 10 important questions to ask yourself. Read them constantly as a checklist to make sure your are heading in the right direction and using your artistic potential.

1. What motivates you to create art? Write down your answer and think about how you can use this very important information.

2. What kinds of information have you been putting on the internet? The internet is the new resume. If I can find dumb pics or comments from you then other people can too...

3. Does your art express something interesting? Great art means something to its viewers, not just its creator.

4. Does failure push you forward? How you deal with failure will determine how skillfull you will become.

5. Do you enjoy arguing or flaming people's work? If you are the type of person to hate on others, it will come back to you. Especially with the internet and all the social networking.

6. Do you try out new methods/materials/subjects that might be unconfortable at first? Success is inevitable if you always choose to believe "It is my obligation to try."

7. Do you have a strong purpose or goal? When you have a purpose, you stand by it. Something special happens when you show an undying drive to achieve a goal.

8. Are you open to meeting new people and hearing others opinions with an open mind? Your heart & mind are the gates to success & happiness. Keep them open or miss out on great opportunities.

9. You can either let your environment shape you or choose YOURSELF to be who you want to be. The body & mind can be shaped into almost any type of person you wish to be. You just have to train it through persistence & constant search for knowledge. (*I started to be "good" in art when I decided to be extremely serious about it.) What kind of person do you want to be?

10.Do you constantly think about your goals? The best way to accomplish a goal is to have it on your mind all the time. Keep thinking about it until you obtain your goal. I'm not the first to say this one but I can't emphasize it enough.

I think it's important to mention that I don't believe I been given any natural talent when it comes to art, I believe I'm PERSISTENT. Anyone can be persistent.

Now PUNCH that laziness in the FACE and have a great day!!
Sending positive vibes to you all.

ILLUSATRATION - YITING'S FIRST BIRTHDAY (B&W)

8 January 2011 / Pencil

Last December 11, we celebrated a little girl's first birthday at her cosy home! Her parents invited the almighty characters from Sesame Street specially for her Birthday! haha!

Here's some pictures that I took at the party, I suggested all the characters to be 1:1 size deco to mimic the real life characters. Well, that's the best I could do to deco the house with painted characters and cut out party hats all handmade with help from the family, rather than to invite the real characters! At least everyone enjoyed the party! Yay~

P.S.: That's the little birthday girl in the Elmo t-shirt!
